The Steering Committee
The Cheshire West Design Awards are led and managed by a multi disciplinary Steering Committee which is drawn from across the region. The membership of the Steering Committee consists of a mixture of volunteers with relevant backgrounds and representatives of Cheshire West and Chester Council, as laid out below.

Steve Wright
As a Chartered Builder brings extensive knowledge and experience of the construction industry. Steve has worked on the operations side of a wide range of projects, for national building and civil engineering companies across the UK. Later years were spent in procuring work which included planning, design and agreeing commercial terms Steve continues to provides project management advice to a local architectural practice

Brings deep experience of UK and overseas architectural design and state of the art construction.
Ron Fitch
Brings deep experience of UK and overseas architectural design and state of the art construction. Ron has worked on two Stirling prize winners, a Millennium design winner and has lectured at many leading architecturalschools including the Bartlett and Westminster and was a guest Master at the Berlage Institute for post grad architecture, Rotterdam. Ron has published papers including Agile manufacturing in the cladding industry, A short history of building fabric and architecture. Recently, Ron presented a paper at the Advanced building skins international conference in Berne, Switzerland.

Rob Charnley
Representative of Cheshire West and Chester. Rob is the Head of Planning and Place Making for Cheshire West and Chester Council. He has worked in Planning within the public sector for nearly 20 years and has a passion for ensuring that good design and place making are a fundamental part of new development.

Peter represents the Chester Civic Trust and has been Chair of the Judging Panel for the last three rounds of these awards.
Peter Hadfield
Peter represents the Chester Civic Trust and has been Chair of the Judging Panel for the last three rounds of these awards. Before retirement Peter worked in Chester as a partner in an architectural practice on a broad range of projects in both the UK and abroad. He retains a keen interest in architectural design, conservation and sustainable development.

Paul Fielding
Practising architect and a member of the Cheshire Society of Architects (affiliated to RIBA). Paul is an architect interested in themes of façade, perception and storytelling. Originally from the North West, he spent 15 years in London with internationally-renowned firms including Eric Parry and WilkinsonEyre, known for their bold yet considered approach to historic buildings. Paul is an Associate at Lovelock Mitchell in Chester, he looks after the creative direction of projects and has recently been helping to document and map the prolific influence of the firm’s founder, architect Thomas M. Lockwood – creator of Victorian Chester.

Lauren Butterworth-Taylor
Representative of Cheshire West and Chester specialising in Conservation. Lauren is a Chartered Town Planner and experienced conservation practitioner. Much of her career has been spent in the public sector caring for and managing the built environment. Key interests of both her professional and academic work, are the understanding and interpretation of heritage value, integration of contemporary and sustainable design in historic environments, and historic shopfronts and signage

Gary Pollitt
Planning and administration of the Steering Committee. Gary worked in ICI and other large chemical companies for many years in the UK and abroad in a variety of functional and managerial roles. Gary Is keen to encourage, promote and recognise great architecture, design and conservation which contribute to improving our quality of life.
